ON THE AIR! “FMU Live!” on WMBM FM 1490 – May 5, 2014

Thanks to Vernon Martin for having me on his monthly show on WMBM AM 1490, “FMU Live!” First, let me say that Vernon is EVERYWHERE! Not only is he the head of Student Activities at Florida Memorial University, which keeps him plenty busy, he has his own radio shows, including his “Talk 2 Me Sports” blog talk radio show. I don’t know how he keeps up with it all.

This particular morning, we discussed the “FMU Reunion and Remembrance Project” that I’m coordinating for the University. Our goal with to do as much as we can to collect and preserve FMU’s history by expanding our material collections as well as recording oral histories with our alumni. St. Augustine has been a focal point of this activity, as the city is currently celebrating 450 years of existence. Florida Memorial, or Florida Normal and Industrial Institute (as it was know), having existed in that locale for 50 years, is a significant part of the story.

Vernon also allowed me to talk to his audience about my book, Junebug and the Gumbo Garden, and the motivation behind it. I shared the airwaves that morning with another author, Samuel Clarke, Jr., who has written a fantastic book, The Rise of Man: A Changed Man is a Changed Mind. It’s a must-read for any young man aspiring to greatness.
